Dr. Welch earned her medical degree from Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University in 2007 and her residency in Family Medicine at UVA in Charlottesville. After her intern year, desiring to be closer to her family, she transferred and completed her Family Medicine residency at Baptist Hospital Wake Forest University in Winston Salem. Dr. Welch has experience in full spectrum Family Medicine in the realm of Primary care and urgent care. She also completed a Women’s Health Fellowship with ECU Family Medicine in 2012.

Being a non-traditional student, attending medical school in her late 30’s, she was affectionately called “Granny” by some of her classmates, to this day, it remains a term of endearment to her. ECU is close to her heart and she grew up in Greenville. She left for college and studied at UNC in 1989 and came back to Greenville in 2001 when she completed her BS in Biology at East Carolina University in 2001. She loves to learn and considers herself a lifelong student where her passion to serve and to remain up to date shows with the care she provides for her patients.

Dr. Welch comes from a large family and enjoys spending time at the beach with them all. Along with her father and siblings, she was a caregiver for her mother for 9 years who suffered from multiple strokes until she was called to Heaven in 2018. This was undoubtedly the hardest job she ever loved. She now enjoys spending time with her 92-year-old fiercely independent father. However, her most beloved role and title is being “Aunt Marty” to 9 nieces and nephews and 12 great nieces and nephews.

To echo the sentiment of a revered mentor, Dr. Tom Irons, Dr. Welch agrees that the “reward in medicine is serving others”. She is delighted to continue to serve the people of Eastern NC along with the compassionate team at Magnolia Place.
